American boyfriend from New Orleans saying that I was a cheap date, since I can get rather tipsy from half a bottle of beer. That's how I learned the expression. Next, when my now husband and I used to go to school in the Obscure Country, he'd buy us three beers, out of which he'd drink 2.5 and I'd drink 0.5. We've been drinking a lot more recently though, having drank 3 bottles of wine last night b/w 7 people and 1 bottle the other night between J. and I, when I first presented him with the cane.
