I've also downloaded the episode just to watch the key dialogue over, and over and over: Prefect: "Permission to give Latimer a beating, sir." Headmaster: "Your class, Mr Smith." The Doctor aka Mr Smith (nonchallantly): "Permission granted." Haron: Aaaaaaah! (melts into a puddle and rewinds). Simon - I haven't noticed the Jenkins bit, but closer scrutiny may reveal it! Amber - you don't need a TV, you can download it with Bit Torrent. Spankable – I believe, ‘bouncing’ just about describes my reaction too.

For a horrid moment, I thought *I* was in trouble. Well, perhaps it was a prediction for later in the evening.... It was so good, and despite knowing that the time was running out and the cliffhanger was coming, was *willing* the show to keep going! Alas, it didn't work. Saw the picture here yesterday though, which got me very excited. Thank you so much for the heads up and isn't it a wonderful shot! By the way, about young Latimer being beaten after Mr Smith gave permission - the next time we saw him he was sitting on a bench and seemed pretty comfy. D'you think his backside's made of steel? I can't imagine the older boys giving him anything less than a <i>very</i> thorough thrashing... I just watched the episode this evening and am bouncing up and down with excitement. The cane is only used as a pointer on camera, though there's a pretty clear indication of its use on poor little Tim by another student. It probably won't be shown in the States for another few months, but thanks to the wonders of Torrent, my husband makes sure we get to watch each the night it gets broadcast. I was just about to blog about the episode, then realized I should check here first and I'm so glad I did. Lovely picture -- aside from everything else (the Doctor, the cane, the schoolmaster garb) -- the noir shadowing is beautifully sinister. So great.
