So, teachers’ union was on strike the other day. Apparently, one school in three was closed around the country. The parents were complaining a lot about having to arrange childcare, but the students didn’t look too upset about missing a day of school.
I imagined a pair of schoolgirls, best friends or maybe sisters. Their school is on strike, but Mum and Dad don’t have to know, do they? The girls get ready for school in the morning, walk out of the house, neat in the uniforms. Except, in their backpacks there are jeans and trainers, and they’ve broken their piggy-banks to get a fare to the nearest mall.
…Of course the parents find out.
What do you think the punishment would be?

Let’s give the parents the same intelligence and guile as their offspring (I’m assuming sisters). They find out they have been conned but do nothing – at first.
A day or so later, just as they leave on the school run, Mum asks to review their homework diaries. She sees a gap on the day of the strike and ask why they didn’t do their homework. Now the sisters have a problem – which crime do they own up to? They know if they tell the truth they are in deep trouble but if they continue to bluff it out they in trouble for not doing their homework. Desparately they look at each other trying to decide which is the least worse course of action.
One of them tries a desparate gamble – she comes up with some half baked excuse that they didn’t get set any homework that day. By now they are in the car and driving to school. Their Mother reaches for the carphone and says she will just ring forward to the school and check this out. Now they really are in trouble. They have to confess to not doing their homework.
Mum turns stern and reminds them of the rules, miss your homework and you make it up at the weekend. She tell them to bring the relevant books home on Friday night. She tells them she is very disappointed in them and she was going to take them to the Mall on Saturday.
Saturday morning is “breakfast in blazers” to remind them that this is a school day. Then it is down to work. Their mother tells each to bring her the work by lunchtime and then to see their Father in the study….

And why exactly *should* the girls go to school if the teachers are on strike? Hmm? I think the teachers should be punished, for striking so close to A Levels. Some of us need all the help we can get.
Besides, students could strike too. Maybe the girls were too scared of the noise on the picket line, and were just trying to do their bit by gathering support in the mall? They should be rewarded for using their initiative, surely?

Good thinking, Smudge, the mall was just an educational field trip really.
Oh and none of my selfish teachers went on strike- traitors to the cause!

Oh, I like Jonathan’s scenario!
Very glad to hear how dedicated Evie’s teachers are. A student of her industriousness deserves only the best, of course…
Smudge is of course correct about the teachers, many more of whom would quite enjoy being dealt with than she may think!

Spankings all around, I should think!
Spank the teachers for striking. Actually, on second thought, I think a good Lochgelly tawse to teach them their lesson!
As for our pair of naughty schoolgirls…
I think they should get busted at the mall by some male authority figure in their life (the headmaster, their vicar, someone like that) and made to spend the rest of their supposed day off at his house, sampling the finest CP has to offer, as well as various and sundry humilations!

In my day the teachers would have gone on strike on a Friday.
What on earth were they thinking of?
As for those free-spirited girls who made off for the day. I say punish them severely.
Something involving limes and lemons comes to mind.

I agree with Zille. When the striking female teacher’s return back to school, the headmaster should call them all into his study, and announce to them. “I now propose a different strike”. Each one of you will be bent over my desk, your dresses, or skirts will be raised, and down will come your knickers, and on all your bare bottoms, a dozen hard strikes will stripe your bare bottoms. And that’s a promise I will keep.
