Casey – you’re totally right about Apollo. Of course, other cadets might grumble that he’s so privileged because of who his daddy is that he even ended up in an induction vids, never mind the subject!

But, as you were writing of an orientation video, it wouldn’t be complete without a glimpse of young Apollo under the rod: (VO: “It matters not if your father is an eminent commander. If you err at the Academy, you may expect to come to grief.”)

And you know Cara Thrace spent much of her training bent over gritting her teeth. Sharon, too, would look pretty trying to take it well, and her suffering might…er…move many fresh, young recruits.

Punishments would be given with a grim sense of duty, I am sure, the punishment officer taking no pleasure the task, but doing his or her best not to let these young pilots-to-be down. They will face much worse than this before long.

Oooh, I love kinky Star Trek dreams! I don’t have enough of them! And I’m totally with Indy on the Picard spanking idea! He is just a perfect disciplinarian! I mean, if you can kick the Borg’s butt, you can certainly spank mine!

(I just remembered that I dreamed about Star Trek, too, last night. Except it wasn’t kinky at all, sadly. A friend and I were watching TNG, and eating sandwiches made of bread, butter, and slices of red and green sweet peppers. I have no idea what was up with that!)

Indy, I was actually think Captain Spock from the motion picture days would make an impression. As would Young Spock from the most recent movie, seeing how he’s an instructor in the academy. Yum.

A somewhat related note: In the classic scifi novel “The Mote in God’s Eye” there is the occasional matter-of-fact reference made to corporal punishment in the Imperial Fleet, notably that of the current Emperor of Man, who, despite his royal rank, was paddled during his days as a midshipman by the fearsome Admiral Kutuzov.
