The implement-maker roll of honour

It struck me that, having written about my new canes from Prysm a little while back, it might be fun to see which makers / companies people really rate when it comes to c.p. implements.

Here are a few of my favourites, all of whom I’ve bought from personally and am happy to endorse – and who now appear on our newly-updated blogroll:

  • For tawses and straps: I particularly rate two makers – first, our friend The London Tanner: Ian makes fabulous implements. Then there’s the always-excellent MC Customs. And for authentic school tawses, eBay’s the place to be – especially, the selection offered from time-to-time by the Church Antique Centre in Crieff.
  • For canes: Prysm, Maui KinkCan-iac and Quality Control. Jack’s Floggers are also recommended (although try finding them at places such as the LAM; I never managed to get a reply to my requests to buy their canes online).
  • For paddles: you know, I could do with a recommendation! I have a fair few of them (OK, a dozen or so, of slightly differing shapes and weights, with holes and without), but I’m not sure I do have what I’d describe as a good, solid, American high school paddle in my collection!
  • For hairbrushes: it just has to be Mason Pearson – although, bizarrely, I found the most gorgeous cheap brush in Claire’s Accessories when Emma Jane and I were on holiday in Belgium last month, which was very robust but not too severe, and worked rather beautifully

Any other recommendations? And for any other items (I don’t have favourites for whips, crops or the like, for example). And if you happen to make nice implements yourself and want to plug them, feel free!

Sure I’m not the only one to roar with laughter that Claire’s Accessories has managed to find its way onto this esteemed list! That’s just wrong!

I like MC Customs too, bought from them on Mr Allen’s recommendation and v pleased with both product and service.

Whoever made Eliane’s blue flogger deserves due credit for it: that’s the nicest one I’ve met in recent years.

As for riding crops, equestrian stores are both better and cheaper than fetish stockists. Buying them with a straight face can be tricky though 😉

I always thought that The Body Shop vicious wooden bath/hair brushes are the choice of mean tops? 😉

For paddles, I’ve got three recommendations.

First is Hanson Paddles. http://paddlewerks.com They have a large range of sizes, shapes and woods.

Several people, including London Tanner have recommended Kitty’s Exotic paddles to me. http://kittysexoticpaddles.com/paddleaccesspage.html

At the most recent Shadowlane, Compass Rose creations were at the vendor fair, http://compassrosecreations.com and judging by the paddle that was brought home as a gift, they know how to make evil implements!

For other implements, Adam and Gillians is usually interesting http://www.aswgt.com/welcome.html

Martha – equestrian stores certainly do the trick, don’t they – unless one has a girl asking “How many horses *do* you own, Abel” as you pay your money over, as happened to me once.

Kami – I’ve broken one of theirs in the past 😉

Simon – great recommendations: there’s one of the PaddleWerks ones that looks particularly interesting!

Oh dear – I wanted to send you a link to the beautiful punishment sticks made of exotic woods which were sold by toybag.com – but it would seem that the toybag no longer exists :-(

We have several lovely paddles from Adam & Gillians but they are primarily leather. Different than Ian’s. Paul and Chris could tell you about the hairbrush paddle (as Mija said to me once, “I start crying when he pulls it out just to save time.”). My favorite leather paddle, which Chris has had longer than he’s had me but which still works wonderfully, came from A & G as well.

I really like my Claire’s hairbrush – very pretty and just stingy enough. HH’s haribrush is a very heavy body shop one and it’s pure evil – I’d be pretty happy if the damn thing would break!

Damn, this post is going to prove expensive! Just need to wait til I have a spell at home lined up so I can take delivery of all the things I now want to order… My Christmas presents to myself are all lined up from the selection you’ve recommended!

EJ – dare you to break it. On the other hand, no I don’t: I’m far too fond of you to hear what would happen if you did!

Quality Control canes are superb quality but we also have some from Coventry Canes on e-bay which are more workmanlike in quality but very effective too.

MC Customs tawses are really beautifully crafted and effective.

And here’s a vote for Boots. We were in London for a long weekend and Mistress was desperate to beat me so we poppoed into Boots in Euston station and bought a rather nice bath brush. A serious weapon of choice in our home ever since
