I sought information recently via Tumblr on a painting I’d seen and rather liked:
A reply was duly and kindly provided: it’s “Admission to the Komsomol”, painted in 1946 by Sergei Grigoriev, one of the leading painters of the Soviet period.
I love the look of the interrogation that’s underway, and the potential consequences for the girl, almost as much as I like the (very NSFW) Photoshopped version that provoked my initial enquiry. Actually, strangely, in some ways I prefer it!
I think the unphotoshopped one is more telling…
