In dread of the birch

I wrote about birching Haron (or Violet) a little while back.

Those of you interested in this most traditional implement might share my fascination with a detailed report from the Canadian Journal of History, entitled: ‘”Give him a doing”: The birching of young offenders in Scotland.’

Whilst it turns out that whippings for women were abolished in 1820, there’s still more than enough material here to spark plenty of kinky thoughts. I particularly liked the rule in the Scottish Home Office regulations instructing punishment officers that a birching was to be:

“sufficiently severe to cause a repetition of it to be dreaded”.

It certainly still seems have that effect today with my young lady.
