On mentoring

The Guardian on Tuesday featured a front-page headline reading:

“All school pupils to get a behaviour mentor.”

Are they looking for volunteers, I wondered?

Along similar lines, I wandered past a group of cute students from our local University last weekend. I wondered how many of the freshers now reaching the end of their first term might admit, deep-down, that they were struggling to apply the necessary self-discipline to their studies, and might relish (and simultaneously dread) some form of supportive mentoring when they return in the new year…

Hmmm, I was a peer counselor in high school, but I like this idea much better.

Fireman Chris: My son has a ‘buddies’ program at school too but I don’t think that’s what Abel means either…

I think he might have been thinking along the lines of ‘the Headmaster’s Office’ where he could provide the necessary incentives for a girl to focus on her studies. Yeah, I think that is he what he meant!

    I feel a story coming on…..
