A school trip

Right now I’m enjoying a girls’ weekend away with some of my Lowewood pals. Although no masters are present, we have prefects to keep us in line, so I’ve made sure to pack my uniform.

There’s something unusual, I think, about a life where, packing for a trip away, I throw t-shirts into my bag at random, but spend a fair amount of time lovingly putting together my schoolgirl costume.

But it’s important, you see, to be properly presented. I imagine a girl in my place who thought that her weekend clothes mattered more than her uniform. I mean, it was just a school trip – nothing to get too uptight about… She chucked her shirt into the case without caring to fold it, picked the shortest skirt, and as for her socks – they were just a random pair she picked up out of her drawer.

Oh, how sorry she was when the prefect and the duty mistress instructed that everyone should wear their uniforms to dinner. The inspection didn’t go well for her, and she ended up receiving six stinging cane strokes – two for each infraction.

I don’t want to be that girl, you see. So I’ve packed very, very carefully.
