A strap or a belt?

From time to time Abel decides that he must know how many spanking implements we own, and starts a house-wide round-up of toys. Last time this happened, we had a bit of a dilemma: quite a few of the things that can be used for spanking are normal household things that live in the kitchen, the study and the bedroom, such as various kitchen utensils, brushes, rulers and rubber-soled shoes.

Do we count them or not? Just because a wooden spoon *can* be a spanking implement, doesn’t mean it’s ever been used that way, or ever will be. Besides, in a right mind-set, just about anything remotely slappy or whippy can be perverted, like a remote control or a stick of celery. (Yep, tried those. Not very effective if pain is what you want, but hilarious.)

So, not everything pervertible is a spanking toy. But some things undeniably are. Confusing, when you’re making an implement round-up.

Anyway, this line of thought got me wondering: do you prefer implements that are specifically made for spanking (say, a nice lacquered paddle with carefully drilled holes, or a lovingly stitched strap), or do you prefer to reach out for pervertibles (a brush, a belt, a ruler)?

I find myself leaning towards the pervertibles camp. There are many specialist toys I enjoy, and certainly my life wouldn’t be the same without canes, but instinctively, my preference is usually for things that aren’t made specifically to be spanking implements.

How about you?

I prefer pervertables too. So easy to find anywhere, and usually inexpensive.

Belts are my favorites, so maybe I’m more in the pervertible camp too. As far as having the dilemma of how to categorize your toys, you could always have a “true” implement list and then a pervertible list.

I’ll go for implements. I like to imagine the intention of their creator, the evocation of the long history of punishments.

Even for the pervertibles, I like ones that are worn and used and have some history to them.

My favorite implement is my husband’s old leather belt. My least favorite is a lexan paddle that we purchased. I guess I’m in the pervertable category. I think my husband is too. He’s always checking out an item’s potential for spanking.

I’d probably say pervertables for me but then like you the cane is a must for me.

well – pervertibles can be fun, no doubt. When counting, I would say… if it is something like a wooden spoon that is used *only* for spanking then it should be counted, but if it’s used for the purpose it was made for and only possibly might be used to spank with, then it shoduln’t be counted.

I prefer implements – especially the ones I have which have been made especially for me, because I appreciate that a friend has gone out of their way to create something of beauty and pleasure for me and also because, being purpose built they produce exactly the right result, unlike pervertibles which, although useful for a salutory punishment, do not.

I am especially fond of my paddle collection – the cherry one made by MeanMax on IRC when he found out that I was going to play with Mr Jardine, and sent special delivery from the US to be here in time. Or the birchwood paddle that feels like satin because Dale sanded and oiled it so many times. Or the little oak paddle that Lizzie made from 100-year-old oak she found in a sawmill sale…. The one pervertible that does make it into my prized paddle collection is a japanese rice paddle, brought for me as a gift from all the way in Japan by Abel :-) I guess for me it’s not just a toybag, but a collection of memories of dear friends :-)
