The fleamarket

Those of you who follow me on Twitter (@abeljenkins, if you want to send a follower request) will have been party to my guided tour of Vienna’s fleamarket at the end of last month. There were whips, wooden spoons, school satchels and plimsolls…

…and carpet beaters. Who knew there were two grades of severity (priced, respectively, at €6 and €10):

I’m used to stories in which older (or more badly-behaved) schoolgirls get the *senior* cane; I’d never previously thought of maids dreading the heavier carpet beater!

After a fair amount of negotiation, I walked away with two items (aside from a pair of bloomers for Emma Jane) – a bronze nude touching her toes for me, and a flower vase with bronze nude as present for EJ. Both, I hope you’ll agree, are rather special:
