The excuse

A columnist in the Standard the other week reported that:

The other day, I got a text message from my student son. It said: “Got 2 grams for £40”. A second message said: “Sorry, ignore that last text.” Naturally, my response was ballistic.

Naturally, my imagination jumped straight to a daughter not a son. The consequences that evening would have been severe: the most strict of talking-tos; being sent to her room to contemplate her behaviour; her father appearing at bedtime, and putting her over his knee for a merciless hand spanking. I suspect he’d have brought his well-worn slipper with him too – as used, over the years, for only the most serious misdemeanours committed by the young lady and her elder sisters.

But the following line added another dimension:

Triumphantly, he directed me to an online link which should this was a global prank.

So the girl in my little sequence would have punished unfairly. I almost feel sorry for her. That is, until another plot spin comes to mind. See, her father would be recounting the tale of the text (if not the thrashing) to colleagues the following day, and would mention the site. “But that isn’t actually a prank site, you know,” someone would observe. “There’s a forum where they can post things they’ve done wrong, and the organisers then put up a link pretending it’s some widespread joke. And that then gives an excuse to get them off the hook.”

A birching that night, don’t you think? Rods cut specially from the back garden? No leniency whatsoever…

More than likely that text was about marijuana; however it could have been: Cocaine, Mali, Ecstasy, LSD, or Meth! If it had been me who sent that text and hand spanking would NOT cut it! I would most likely be facing the belt, the switch, or the cane. Hand spanking…….Pshhh she wishes!

Spanking would not do much to this. Drug is serious problem and should be addressed by conselling and appropriate, experienced health care person.
Spanking in this case is abuse. And stupid. A warning directing to conselling centers should be added to this kind of topic to dissociate fantasy from reality, even perveted !

Glad a couple of you liked it, at least!

Brigit – honestly, I hesitated before approving your comment from the moderation queue, but I respect your right to express your opinion. “Spanking would not do much” for this, and “in this case is abuse”? Non-consensual spanking is *always* abusive in my book; I think your implication that it’s not is far worse than sharing what was obviously meant as a fantasy.
