The British elite: setting a spanking example?

In the past, Tony Blair has admitted to spanking his children.

Yesterday’s Times made a further, far more deeply disturbing allegation – this time about his relationship with the French President:

“Tony has this odd liking for Chirac,” a Downing Street aide once said. “It’s an S&M thing.”

That’s scary. Seriously scary. I have images in my mind of bare-bottomed OTK spankings that I really wish would go away.

The Standard, meanwhile, maintained its reputation as the kinkily-disposed reader’s evening newspaper of choice, with Friday’s delightful report of Eton College’s annual Fourth of June celebrations of King George III’s birthday. Posh diarist Leonie Frieda bemoans the decline of the event, which takes place in a field called Aggars Plough.:

What used to be a happy saunter from picnic to picnic has now degenerated into a teenage booze fest. Were a Martian to land in the middle of Aggars, he might well conclude that Eton is a college for girls not boys, since the former far outnumber the latter on the late king’s birthday….

Not only has this once-pleasant, typically English day… become a ‘drinkathon’ for underage girls, this year a gang of streakers struck a new low at Eton’s high day.

This is an outrage: they should restore standards at once. I picture gown-clad masters patrolling the fields next year; young ladies being escorted to Housemaster’s offices; the thwack of the birch and the shrieks of the miscreants echoing across Aggars.

I must check what we’re doing next June 4. Sounds like an interesting day out.

The image of one very strict, stern, firm-handed Tony Blair giving a good talking to and spanking (to me–not that the thought ever crossed my mind before this) is one that I certainly don’t mind lingering about in the hollow between my ears. However, I so wish you hadn’t shared the other…of Blair and Chirac… because now I can’t get that one out of my mind instead! The former was so much more pleasantly distracting than the latter…

I thought American readers would like the idea of the French getting spanked?
