The entire Sixth Form in trouble

Here’s an image: a long queue of sixth-formers outside the Headmaster’s study, a shuffling, subdued lot. Every few minutes one of their class-mates emerges from the office with a tear-streaked face, nods for the next person to go in, and walks stiffly away.

I wonder why I’ve been thinking about this all morning…

Oh, I know, it’s because of this news story:

The entire sixth year of a school was sent home on their last day after pupils turfed over the floor of their common room.

Teachers at Banchory Academy took the step after it was discovered some pupils had been drinking.

Aberdeenshire Council said it was decided to send all 100 pupils home.

This isn’t how they would deal with it in my school.

Oh, I love muck up day! It’s like, the best day *ever*. It was way fun in year 11 and it’s gonna be way, way fun in June. I’m so excited!

Muck-Up day is when the upper sixth get total free rein to do whatever they want either just after exams or the day before study leave. You basically get really drunk, cover the school in giant posters saying things like “come on girls, let’s have a mass debate,” order strippers for assembly, throw water balloons around, give out condoms, re-decorate classrooms, set animals free through the school, put turf down on the corridors, use water guns on teachers and we get our own assembly- we’re going to have a giant rave. Mines tomorrow!!! It’s SO much fun! I can’t belive you got one in year eleven, Smudge, we only get on in 13!

I’m sure I told you about it before, Abel… but then, it was a long time ago. And you are awfully old.

Evie – we don’t. We *only* got one in year 11. But there’s this big celebration ball in June and we figured, you know, it wouldn’t be right to ignore it seeing as we don’t get a real one. It’s our honorary muck up day. Have fun tomorrow!

“total free rein to do whatever you want”

Settle down Smudge and Evie! I know of girls that went into muck up day with that attitude and found themselves in very deep trouble.

Smudge and Evie, I have three words for you: No Lasting Damage!

Other than that, have fun. If you do anything you don’t feel quite right about, I’m sure Abel would be willing to help you learn the error of your ways.
