We wandered into an adult shop in Kyoto, hoping to expand our spanking movie collection. Although there were plenty of schoolgirl uniforms in evidence, we did wander in what sort of school the teachers would use quite as much rope in such exciting variations.
When we got back to the hotel, though, our disappointment didn’t last, for one of the local channels was showing a “dorama” (live action drama, for the uninitiated) set in an exclusive girls’ school. Beautiful uniforms, a stern headmistress, lessons in great detail – there was everything to make us happy.
Well, not quite everything. Abel waited in vain for the canings.* Also, we don’t understand Japanese. But this actually proved to be an advantage, for we provided our own simultaneous translation, based loosely on the events on the screen.
It went like this:
A snooty tall girl (a prefect, we surmised) talks to the wide-eyed ingénue of a main character, with much snarling. Abel translates:
“…and if you don’t sneak a bottle of whisky into my dorm room, I will tell the Headmistress you cheated, and she’ll call you to her office. I was called to her office once. She keeps a cane there, you know. She’ll cane you!”
Suddenly, incongruously, the main character breaks out into an enormous smile.
Abel and I, simultaneously:
“But I love being caned! My boyfriend does it all the time!”
You get the idea. Although we’re still not sure what happened for most of the film, we think it was an excellent piece of television, and wouldn’t mind seeing more of it. I found its homepage, in fact, so if you read Japanese, enjoy!
* Although he did sleep through the Headmistress slapping the main character across the face.
How much would I have paid to watch a video of your simultaneous translation..?
A little bit of browsing (and my google toolbar translation tool) leads me to believe that what you were watching was an adaptation of A Little Princess, one of my favourite childhood books (not least because there was always a possibility that there might be a spanking!)
Of course, Google Translator could be lying horribly. This is what it made of one particular piece of the introduction:
“Changing circumstances, the heroine is a roller coaster, depicts a heroine without loss of image brightness in gentleness and Tung, send a new message of strong drama.
9 Roque went to India in early March, rather than a pet elephant, taken the lives of Benhabib gorgeous.”
Can anyone tell me what that means in English?
