The internet’s for….?

My Tumblr site seems to have taken on something of a life of its own, now attracting far more daily traffic than this blog. On Sunday, for the first time, it even overtook “Abel’s Spanking Stories” in terms of hits.

I’m not entirely sure what to think about that. What I’d conceived as a little light entertainment – primarily, to attract people to click across and read my writing here – now seems to be the biggest part of the “Spanking Writers” empire. First and foremost, I guess, it proves that the internet really is “for porn”. I’ve posted 2500 pictures there in the past six months, and I guess my perverted tastes are shared by lots of others out there.

Yet my stories site’s been out there for nearly thirteen years; this blog for six (tomorrow, as it happens). Both are labours of love, involving probably thousands of hours of writing effort. They each feature pretty near the top of many relevant Google searches. But it’s so much easier to attract visitors with a few naughty photos – and, actually, very few of the porn viewers do then click across to my more literary pages. The writer in me’s feeling rather resentful of the Tumblr site, much as I do rather enjoy updating it.

Since men are more graphically oriented than women, I guess that means your readership has a preponderance of males.

I must admit you do have rather good pictures, even though I prefer the written word.

Hi, Hermione – I think the readership here on the blog is largely female: certainly, the commenters are. But I wonder if Tumblr has a more male audience?

I confess, I do go and look at the Tumblr site, but I always come here first. Like Hermione, I love the written word and (not to brown nose it, or anything) especially yours. You have a wonderfully descriptive style. Don’t be jealous of Tumblr. It also tells a story, just one the illiterate can read. :)

What about putting the stories in as pictures?, the short ones any way?

Congratulations in advance on your blogivarsary.

I don’t like Tumblr at all. Most of the images are just reposted around other Tumblr blogs. It just all seems so cheap and nasty. Lots of people do like easy images though.

I like looking at pictures but I much prefer stories either in word or video form. I can immerse myself more in stories so they are what I seek out either in the form of blogposts or actual stories.

I guess the internet is for everyone to find something that they enjoy. It’s so good because it is varied and wide ranging.

Pictures are OK if you like that sort of thing but your writing is what makes me visit your blog and your stories on a daily basis. Tumblring? It’s fine as a side line but don’t let it get in the way of your real talent!

I look at Tumblr occasionally, but have never gotten all the way thru it. Many of the pictures are good, but some I just don’t care for. I try to check your blog daily. I agree w/ PeterD.

    Keep up the writing!!

I much prefer your stories too! They’re so graphic I don’t need any pictures.

I’ve checked out the Tumblr site a couple of times, but the internet is already overflowing with porn images and I’m mainly interested in your writing – especially as you update regularly.

There is something very addictive about Tumblr and looking at reams and reams of erotic pikkis. There is a part of me that worried about that. Where exactly would it end? So, I closed my account. I admit, I miss it but at least more work is getting done.
