New look, free book

Well, that was a rapid crash-course in WordPress – but the blog is duly redesigned. Less cluttered, a little more contemporary, two columns, nicer fonts, various behind-the-scenes technical problems that hadn’t been fixed in a long while duly corrected.

What do you think? I’m not sure about the text image in the background – comprising the most common words in the 7+ years of the site. I can go with that, or just a plain block colour. I quite like it – but is it too much? Comments appreciated.

Whilst updating the site, I’ve also decided to make the PDF version of “The Punishment List” (the book of some of my best stories) available for free download (rather than you having to buy it from Amazon). A little gift to my readers for your loyal following over the years: I hope you like it. (It’s under the ‘Free Book’ menu option at the top of the page).

Hope you like the changes. And certainly open to doing what I can to tweak the site, as far as the new template allows, if anyone has any bright ideas.

I like the new, fresh look. I really like the categories at the top of the page. I want to learn how to do this. I think the outside edge with the words and color is good; thematic. My eye goes to the white space anyway and the big, colorful words don’t detract from the message at all which is, I think, because there is plenty of white space and the site is so easily navigated. I’d prefer to see the comments below the post as before, but I think that’s one of the limitations of WordPress, is it not? Very kind to make your stories free. Such a kind soul!

Checking in from my phone and your site is looking good, as it also does from my iPad mini.
Well done, your self taught word press crashcourse gives you 10 out of 10 from me. Xxx

Well of course I’ll be a dissenting voice, but why did you have to change a familiar blog?
    I can’t see the improvement!

…as above I loved the colours and design of the old layout, I loved seeing the familiar page when I logged on, but the blog still continues, we’ll get used to it.

I really like the clean and reduced design although it almost looks too innocent for the content. I think you should post a few pictures every now and then to avoid that 😉

The only thing that irritates me a bit is the colourful background but as I only see that on the desktop computer from which I hardly access the site it’s not much of an irritation.
