Scanning the queue

According to newspaper reports, Tesco is to install scanning systems to target advertising at those queuing to buy petrol. By the time you get to the fuel pumps, they’ll be showing you videos based on your age group and gender.

This is only the beginning, surely: such (IMHO slighly intrusive) software is bound to develop in future years. Picture the 2023 version: a schoolgirl, in uniform, crying and in pain in the front passenger seat whilst her father looks furious behind the wheel? Ah yes: we have seen this combination many times before – a parent summoned from work to pick up his daughter after she’d been caned and suspended for a grave breach of school rules.

But at whom would they target the ads? For her: arnica, chocolate, a cushion and a teddy bear? Or for him, perhaps, a thick leather belt with which to make his displeasure know as soon as they got home?

I rather like that thought. The last two paragraphs. 😉
