The Romans again

Amazing how my little Roman slave fantasies of the other day keep cropping up again.

Last night’s dream, for example. A writer sitting by a window, high up, looking out as a young woman is led into the courtyard of a neighbour’s house.

She catches his eye, as she struggles: a defiant look.

Her tunic reveals her to be a slave. Her master removes it, roughly, and ties her hands above her head.

She’s positioned facing the writer. She looks up at him again, realising that her ordeal is being closely observed. She averts her eyes, ashamed.

Her master proceeds to lay on the strokes: hard, fast, purposefully. The writer can no longer see her eyes: they’re downcast, the girl absorbed totally in her flogging.

She’s untied. She grabs her costume; covers herself; runs inside.

And the writer records what he’s seen, and reflects on what he doesn’t know: the girl’s name, her offence. Whether it was her first whipping. Given she was facing him during the flogging, how she’d marked. Who’d comfort her afterwards.

I am fascinated by classical Roman history. A few
months ago I read Adrian Goldsworthy’s excellent
Caesar: Life of a Colossus. He speculates that Caesar’s
first sexual experience could have been with a slave
girl. He explains that slaves were property in the
same way that a piece of furniture was. They had
absolutely no human rights in ancient Rome and had
no right to say no to sexual demands. And of course
they could be whipped as their owners saw fit.

I too have been thinking of spanked Roman slave
stories. I really liked yours. It has the outline
    of an excellent story.

I’ve been thinking of a story about a beautiful
educated slave, a Gaulish princess, who is the slave
and secretary of the Roman historian Sallust. A
beautiful girl, who is also well educated would be
a very expensive slave. While she might be
disciplined, she would not be mistreated, since she
would be too valuable. Sallust retired from Roman
politics to write history. Remarkably he survived
Mark Antony and the proscriptions, although he was
a wealthy man. In the story I imagine that Sallust’s
wife has died and, politics being behind him, he has
no desire to remarry, which is usually done for
dynastic and political reasons. Instead his slave
girl becomes his lover. Of course he spanks here
as well. Sometimes for discipline, sometimes
as sexual foreplay. The story is written by the
girl, in her middle age. Sallust has died and he
has freed her in his will and left her a farm
    outside of Forenza.
