Uniform pyjamas

A little while back, Haron and I passed a rather fabulous uniform shop. We were en route to a very vanilla wedding, and turning up with a stock of newly-purchased school accessories really wouldn’t have been the done thing. But I did point out a particularly fine blazer in the window – a flamboyant garment, in blue and green stripes.

“The only thing is,” I commented, “those colours would look better on school pyjamas than on a jacket.”

“There’s no such thing as uniform pyjamas,” Haron retorted.

And I think that’s a pity, don’t you? I love the idea of girls wearing identical pj’s in school colours… and I love the idea of all of the girls in the dorm being made bend over the ends of their beds en masse, late one night, for misbehaviour after lights out. Not that they’d be wearing their pyjama bottoms whilst being slippered hard, in turn, by the house tutor, I hasten to add…

Oh, I think there is amnple scope for uniform pyjamas! After all, if one were an inmate at, say, a reformatory, one would surely not be allowed to wear simply what one chooses. There would be regulation clothes prescribed for all circumstances, provided from the official store-room (where hand-me-downs would be the norm).

Of course, this whole topic then begets the question, should it be pyjamas or a nightdress… pyjamas seem to be a more tom-boyish sort of a garment, and might perhaps encourage naughty girls to misbehave, whereas a nightdress seems to me to be a more demure garment.

I wonder which would be the more humiliating – having to pull down one’s pyjama bottoms, or having to ever-so-reluctantly lift the (ankle-length) hem of one’s nightdress….

You do get places with uniform PJ’s. It tends to be prep schools though.

    What DO you love more?
    Matching PJ’s?
    Girls bending over?
    Girls being slippered?

I just thought maybe some order of preference should be established? 😉
