“A pervert, in a romantic way”

Long-standing readers of the blog might know that I adore Richard Linklater’s “Before…” series of films, starring Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. Indeed, “Before Sunset” was ranked third in my list of all-time favourite movies when I talked about my “Top Tens’ in various genres a couple of years back.

The final part of the trilogy, “Before Midnight”, came out earlier this year. In many ways, it’s the best of the three. I’m not afraid to confess that it first moved me to tears within the opening half hour, and continued to do so for much of the remainder. Funny, deeply insightful… remarkable.

Why post about it here, now? Simply because I’ve just seen an interview with Julie Delpy that appeared in the New York Times back in May, which contains a rather lovely (and very hot) paragraph:

“I’m probably more interested in sex than any man I’ve met — all of them put together!”

She paused, then laughed. “With the right person, of course — I’m not a nymphomaniac. I need to fall in love, so I have a little confusion. I’m a pervert, but in a romantic way.”

Oh, how I love that final line. Just wonderful! I want it on a T-shirt – not that I would be brave enough to wear it!
