The Times greately amused us with this picture, which illustrated an article about a tiny flat in London sold for a crazy ammount of money.*
Don’t worry, though: nice people in The Times don’t approve of the swinging of real actual cats:
* The piece was headed “No room to swing a cat (or a cue) in the 12ftx6ft flat for sale at 170,000 pounds”. The cue reference is to the fact that the whole place is as big as a billiards table. I assume, there’s no space to swing a cane, either. That just won’t do.
Just trying to work out which part of the cat’s skull is going to crack against the door frame… hmmmm
You could probably just about manage a cane stroke, if the spankee touched her toes in the bathroom doorway… just….
Thanks for that charming thought re: felines, Richard. Thanks a bunch!
Haron: My parents had a little house like this when they first married….couldn’t close the toilet door. They talked about not being able to swing a cat..pretty sure though they weren’t talking about the nine tailed version….
Richard: Since you’re ‘worried’ about the cat, perhaps we could use you as the measuring devise….
That’s the limitation of the urban life for you. Plenty of space to swing whatever in the barn.
Or, shall I say, in the woodshed.
While I do not approve of the torturing of ACTUAL animals, I strongly believe more newspapers should (generously) employ illustrations of cats being swung. The Feline variety that is, although I certainly wouldn’t object to the other type so long as it’s not being swung at me…
MSNBC has an online video of this story complete with pictures of the flat, and commentary. The place looks like a dump … a true “fixer upper.” Sorry, but there is no direct url to the story. Go to http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ and look for a link under Today’s News/Stories.
TODAY video: Tiny apartment sells for big bucks
Mitch – what type of cat do they use in the video? Or is there a girl touching her toes in the doorway, to please Richard?
